Cooperation on copyright protection to be developed between Hong Kong and Mainland

On August 21, Director of the General Administration of Press and Publication and the National Copyright Administration Liu Binjie met with Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of Hong Kong SAR Government Mr. Frederick MA Si-hang and his delegation, pointing out that the scope of cooperation between Hong Kong and the Mainland China is extensive, such as copyright protection, industrial development, market development, etc..

Liu said, as the reform and opening up is deepening, relations on publication trade, IP protection, etc. between the two sides are becoming much closer.

IP protection has extended beyond the confine of country or region and international cooperation is indispensable in combating piracy together.

Hong Kong is place with diversified cultures, therefore, it shall strengthen cooperation with the Mainland in many aspects, including development, market, etc..

In the past few years, the Mainland and Hong Kong have achieved favorable cooperation in fighting against disc smuggle on the sea.

IP protection work has a short history in the Mainland; however, it develops with great efforts and rapidness.

China can't be expected to undergo the experiences in IP protection of several hundred years of developed countries in only several years and it needs certain time to improve its IP protection system step by step.

Mr. Frederick MA Si-hang expressed gratitude to the GAPP for their support to Hong Kong Book Fair.

He said, Hong Kong SAR Government always attaches importance to IP protection and hopes to strengthen communication and cooperation with press and publication administrations and customs of the Mainland.
